Amazon Basin (2026 Release)

For the third year in a row, General has released a shipment of the original Amazon Basin to retailers early in the new year. First introduced in 2014, this cigar is a 6 x 52 toro featuring an Ecuadorian Sumatra-seed wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder, with filler tobaccos sourced from Brazil, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic. As with most CAO cigars, production takes place at STG Estelí in Nicaragua.

At the heart of the blend is a rare Brazilian tobacco known as Bragança, cultivated deep within the Amazon rainforest. According to General, this unique varietal can only be harvested once every three years. The plants are grown with unusually wide spacing—about a yard apart—to allow proper development. After harvesting, the leaves are rolled into tubes called carottes and aged for six months. When Amazon Basin was first released, General noted that the tobacco was transported out of the rainforest by boat, underscoring just how remote and labor-intensive its sourcing truly is.
